Prominent among the attendees were hundreds of expatriate Kurds, who came to show support for Israel and for the message conveyed by Ayalon.
At the conference, Musab Hassan Yusuf ( the son of a former Hamas commander known by his nickname "the Green Prince"), appeared to be very moved by the release of Gilad Shalit and said to Ayalon, "I envy a people that sanctifies life and is willing to release 1027 murderers in exchange for one soldier." The delegates stood for a moment of silence in memory of the victims of terrorism and the missing.
In his speech, Deputy FM Ayalon mentioned the excellent relations between Israel and Germany, thanked Germany for its support of Israel and its leadership of the European position. Ayalon noted the changes taking place in the region and expressed his hope that the elections that day in Tunis would be free, equal and open. He stated that Israel is ready to extend a hand in peace to every new regime that believes in the values of democracy, freedom and equality.
After his speech, the deputy foreign minister was briefed on the earthquake in Turkey and said that Israel is prepared to extend humanitarian aid to Turkey, just as it is willing to help in any case of natural disaster, which does not distinguish between countries or peoples.
